TEN Fall Home Maintenance Musts!

  1. Clean gutters and downspouts, install gutter guards to keep future maintenance to a minimum
  2. Change furnace filters
  3. Have a professional inspect and tune up heat pumps/furnaces
  4. Change batteries in smoke detectors or carbon monoxide detectors
  5. Inspect your roof, finding leaks before they cause damage is key. Pay special attention to the flashing around chimneys and vents and make repairs as necessary
  6. Hire a chimney sweep to inspect your fireplace to ensure it is safe and ready for use
  7. If you have a generator, fire it up and ensure its operation before you need it
  8. Seal gaps where critters can get into house
  9. Stock up on winter supplies, fill your gas cans, stock batteries, chop your firewood, these are especially important in remote and higher elevations
  10. Clean your dryer vents, cool dry air increases static electricity so be sure to keep it clear and lower your fire risk
